Child safety standards

Mechi's standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Effective: 15 October 2026Applies to the Mechi app and mechyapp.com

Mechi has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sextortion and trafficking. These standards apply to every account, profile, photo and message on Mechi.

Mechi is for adults only

  • Everyone must be 18 or older. Each person gives their date of birth at sign-up, and anyone under 18 is refused.
  • Every account must verify a real email address before using the app.
  • If we learn that a user is under 18, we remove the account.

What is prohibited

  • Any content that sexualises a child, including drawings, edited and AI-generated images.
  • Sharing, requesting or linking to child sexual abuse material.
  • Grooming, or any attempt to contact, meet or exploit a child.
  • Photos of children on their own in a profile.

How to report

  • In the app: open the chat, tap Options, then Report, and choose "May be under 18" or the reason that fits. The person is blocked straight away.
  • By email: write to [email protected]. Do not attach or forward illegal images; describe what you saw and the person's first name on Mechi.

What we do

  • Reports about children are reviewed first, before any other report.
  • We remove the content and permanently ban the account.
  • We preserve the relevant information and report it to the Kenyan police and other relevant authorities, as the law requires.
  • We cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations.

Laws we follow

We comply with Kenyan child protection law, including the Children Act, 2022, the Sexual Offences Act, 2006 and the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018.
